The spacecraft called Cassini has been in orbit around Saturn and captured an amazing view of the small moon of Mimas. The probe measures the difference in temperature across the whole of the object’s surface, when viewed as a whole it appears as if 80’s legend Pac-Man is hidden within the moon. Scientists are unsure why Mimas looks this was but says it is probably related to the diversity of textures in the surface materials. “Some textures may retain heat better than others”, they explain. Either way, as children of the 80’s growing up with Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Breakout and other Arcade classics we think this is cool!

The moon is approximately 400km (250 miles) across and has a distinctive scar called Herschel Crater which has led many to compare it to the “Death Star” from the Star Wars movies. Although this sounds like there is a dull comparison website comparing iconic characters and moons we still found this amusing. The Cassini team take it a little more seriously saying that the creation of the crater itself might have played a key role in changing conditions across extensive regions of the moon’s surface leading to the appearance of Pac-Man

Cassini is a joint venture between the US space agency (Nasa), the European Space Agency (Esa) and the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and it’s mission was recently extended through to 2017. I’m waiting for them to find Space Invaders on Jupiter!

The London club gave punters the VIP treatment last weekend on Saturday 12th December, allowing them to jump the queue when they produced a condom at the door.

The promotion coincided with the finale of DJ Pete Tong’s 2009 Wonderland residency.

The Queue Jump with a Condom promotion came as a frontline promotion in the new – Contraception. Worth Talking About – campaign which is designed to increase young people’s awareness of the different types of contraception available to them.

Over 100 Queue Jump with a Condom promotions have taken place in the UK in the last two years, encouraging thousands of adults to carry condoms as part of their normal routine, helping to protect against the spread of STIs.

Natasha Palmer from Ministry of Sound, said: “Carrying a condom on a night out is not only the best way to play it safe – it now comes with the added benefit of avoiding the crowds for what promises to be one of the busiest and best nights at Ministry of Sound all year. We hope to see lots of party goers queue-jumping with a condom this weekend.”

That’s right, after a collection of over 2000 pills were stolen during a break in, a Dutch resident of Eerbeek, Holland decided the best thing to do would be to call the police. Risking arrest and possible incarceration he turned to the law in an attempt to recover his stolen collection – and they believed him!

According to the man he doesn’t actually use drugs at all but he maintains that instead he is a collector, much in the same way one would collect stamps or football cards.

He argued that his real passion “comes from the varied collection of colours, shapes and logos that are printed on the pills… I’ve tried it (ecstasy) before but I didn’t like it.” The pills are thought to have a street value of around 11,000 euros.

His main worry is that someone might end up dead if they decided to take one of the 40 red and white pills in his collection which according to research are believed to be poisonous.

Police spokeswoman Esther Naber stated: “why would you make something like this up?” and maintains that she believes the collectors story.

Carl, who went down to BBC Elstree for a day to work with the music production team as a part of the overall prize, said: “I have grown up hearing Simon May’s original theme tune and watching Albert Square and the iconic Queen Vic, so I feel very privileged to be a part of Eastenders: E20 history.”

Diederick Santer said of the winning remix: “I’m really pleased with Carl’s new version, and think it will top and tail our new series brilliantly. It’s noisy and fun and full of life – much like the characters of EastEnders: E20.”

Simon May, who composed the original tune, added: “We were looking for an original and contemporary remix of the EastEnders theme, retaining its DNA but also something that had a young take on what BBC One viewers have become familiar with over the last 25 years.”

With flights into space coming in at around $200,000 it’s certainly not cheap, but it’s definitely one that can live up to the hype of being an ‘out of this world experience’.
